WHY BLENDED?

At Piggy’s, we believe your baby’s first socks should be made with materials that are as thoughtful as they are safe. That’s why our socks are crafted from a premium blend of 85% Supima® cotton, 12% nylon, and 3% spandex—a combination that delivers softness, strength, and just the right amount of stretch for a stay-on fit.

Unlike most baby socks made almost entirely from polyester or other plastic-based fibers, Piggy’s is striving toward the complete removal of polyester. Our blend uses only the essentials to achieve comfort and performance, with a long-term commitment to eliminating unnecessary plastics from babywear altogether.

While 100% cotton may sound promising, cotton is absorbent so it easily wicks sweat away from the skin creating moisture. This moisture combined with friction can cause blisters which is not ideal for adventurous little feet.

A cotton / nylon / spandex blend is an excellent choice for socks as it combines the breathable softness of cotton with the durability and quick-drying properties of nylon and the support of spandex, keeping little toes dry and comfortable with socks that stay on longer.

SUPIMA® COTTON

Our Supima® cotton isn’t just any cotton — it’s 100% American-grown, carefully cultivated in the San Joaquin Valley. We proudly source it through the J.G. Boswell Company in Corcoran, California, one of the most respected cotton growers in the world. This ensures that every pair of Piggy’s socks begins with responsibly grown, premium fiber that’s traceable, sustainable, and rooted in California soil.

Supima® cotton offers several benefits due to its extra-long staple fibers, including superior softness, strength, and durability compared to regular cotton. We only want to supply the best For Your Piggies, so we only use Supima® cotton in all of our baby socks.

Supima® cotton is also known for its:
1. Unparalleled Softness: Supima® cotton's extra-long fibers create a silky, smooth texture that is incredibly soft against the skin.
2. Exceptional Strength and Durability: It's twice as strong as regular cotton, making it more resistant to pilling, tearing, and fraying.
3. Breathability: The fine weave of Supima® cotton promotes breathability, allowing air to circulate and dissipate heat, making it ideal for warm weather.
4. Longevity and Color Retention: The durable fibers and excellent dye absorption ensure garments retain their vibrant colors and shape for a longer duration.
5. Eco-Friendly: Supima® cotton cultivation often involves better practices than conventional cotton, leading to less water usage and reduced pesticide application.
6. Ease of Care: Supima® cotton is generally easy to care for, with minimal shrinkage or wrinkling.

NYLON

Our nylon is OEKO-TEX® certified, meaning it has been independently tested and verified to be free from harmful substances — safe for delicate baby skin and the planet alike.

The use of nylon helps provide structure yet flexibility so that our socks maintain their shape through repeated use. Because of nylon's dependability, our socks are able to last longer and retain their shape over countless wears and washes.

Other benefits of nylon include:
1. Strength & Durability: Nylon fibers are highly resistant to wear, helping reinforce high-stress areas of the sock and reducing holes or thinning.
2. Shape Retention: By working alongside cotton, nylon prevents stretching out or sagging, ensuring a snug fit wash after wash.
3. Lightweight Support: Nylon adds reinforcement without heaviness, keeping socks soft, breathable, and flexible.
4. Smooth Finish: Its fine texture blends with cotton to create a polished, sleek surface that feels gentle on baby’s delicate skin.
5. Moisture Management: Nylon naturally wicks some moisture away from the skin, complementing cotton’s breathability for all-day comfort.

SPANDEX

Like our nylon, this fiber is also OEKO-TEX® certified, ensuring that even the smallest percentage of material meets the highest global safety standards for textiles.

Spandex in Piggy's socks provides a snug, comfortable fit, ensuring proper support and freedom of movement. Even in small amounts, this fiber transforms the way Piggy's move and fit on growing baby feet.

Other benefits of spandex include:
1. Stretch & Flexibility: Spandex provides exceptional elasticity, allowing socks to expand comfortably while staying secure.
2. Stay-On Fit: The spring-like quality of spandex helps socks hug baby’s feet and legs, preventing them from slipping off during play, naps, or everyday wear.
3. Comfort in Motion: With spandex, socks adapt to every wiggle, crawl, and step without feeling tight or restrictive.
4. Recovery: Unlike other fibers, spandex bounces back to its original shape after being stretched, preserving the sock’s fit over time.
5. Minimal Use, Maximum Impact: At only 3% of the fiber content, spandex provides just the right amount of hold without overwhelming the natural softness of Supima® cotton.
